What’s the hot “new” destination for 2018?
Portugal has been reporting impressive number for the past two years. with an increase of over 30% from last year. The number of U.S. travelers for was up over 40% for some months.
Tourism growth is a huge boost to the Portuguese economy, with economic growth near the top of the European Union and unemployment at a nine-year low.
Today more and more travel writers pick Portugal as a must-see country. Fodor’s included the Northern Minho area in its 2017 “Go List.” Condé Nast Traveler said Portugal was one of the places to go in 2017. Lonely Planet named the Azores one of the “world’s best regions to visit in 2017.”
Geographically, Portugal is closer to the United States than anything else and Lisbon is Europe’s new “capital of cool.”
With the new global attention, Portugal is looking for new ways to make guests feel comfortable and to help them get the best out of their stay. New hotels, spas, villas, restaurants and more will open their doors to greet new guests in 2018 and 2019. In fact, more than 80 new hotel projects are on the books to open this year, with about a third in and around Lisbon.
