Itinerary Description:

Begin your journey in the dynamic city of Vienna, the cultural, political, and economic center of Austria. Explore the city along the Ringstraße (Ring Road), taking in the sites of Kapuziner Gruft, Stephansdom, and Kunsthistorisches Museum. Have a private escort through the Hofburg, the former residential palace of the Habsburg dynasty, rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and visit its famous white Lipizzan stallions at the Spanish Riding School on site. During your time in Vienna, you will have plenty of time to explore the romantic Christkindlmarkt (Christmas market) in front of Vienna´s town hall, a site especially magical in the early evening hours when the entire market is illuminated.

Venture onward to the Baroque jewel of Salzburg, Austria, a stunning center of musical creativity most widely known as the birthplace of Mozart and the setting behind the beloved film, The Sound of Music. Settle into Hotel Sancher, an excellent outfit on the river Salzach where Old World charm melds with modern, high-tech comfort. Complete your stay with a horse drawn carriage ride through Old Town Salzburg, taking in the sights and visiting the enchanting Christkindlemarkt located at the Residenz Square, all the while keeping warm with a Glühwein (mulled wine).

Next, make your way across the border to Bavaria, the southernmost state of Germany, and Munich, the city of “laptops and lederhosen,” where the stylish accommodations of the Bayerischer Hof hotel await. Spend the days touring the city and experiencing some of its major sights such as the National Theater, Field Marshalls’ Hall at Odeonsplatz, St. Cajetan Church, the palace museum Wittelsbach Residenz, the lavish Renaissance-inspired Antiquarium, and Cuvilliés Theater, considered the most important rococo theatre in Germany. Conclude your guided visit at the Church of Our Dear Lady, the Frauenkirche, where you will then walk to the medieval Christmas Market stalls on Wittelsbach Square to see Bavarian crafts and traditional gifts in the shadow of city hall’s famous Glockenspiel.

End your magical journey in the beautiful city of Regensburg, just a quick train ride from Munich. Visit the romantic Christmas market in the courtyard of the imposing façade of St. Emmeram, the castle of the family of H.H. Prince of Thurn and Taxis. Afterwards, get lost in the narrow alleyways of the old part of town—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—before taking a break at the oldest sausage kitchen in the world, Historische Wurstküche.

Spend one last memorable day meandering through Munich, seeing the famous Nymphenburg Palace and the Königsplatz (King’s Square) before transferring to the airport for your evening departure home.
