| Biking Laos
& Vietnam |
Location: Luang Prabang, Laos to
Hanoi, Vietnam Duration:
9 days
Our problem is, we want to do
it all. On our original Vietnam trip, we cover some of the country’s most
beautiful and fascinating pockets. But no 10-day trip can include
everything—especially such out-of-the-way wonders as Ha Long Bay, or emerging
neighbors such as Laos. So call this Vietnam 2.0—or perhaps Intro to Indochina.
Either way, it’s a new twist on one of our favorite parts of the world: just
three stops, each entirely different from the others. First, there’s Luang
Prabang, the under-explored but UNESCO-protected capital of Laos, with its
neighboring villages, Mekong vistas, and distinct cuisine and culture. Next, we
fly, drive and boat until we find ourselves amid the famous limestone islands of
Ha Long Bay—where we spend two nights afloat. Finally, it’s off to the great
Vietnamese capital of Hanoi to bike among rice paddies and absorb history
ancient and modern. Of course, we still won’t have done it all—but that’s one of
the reasons we’re so crazy about travel.
