Holiday Travel in 2021

Make the most of holiday travel in 2021 with these wonderful worldwide destinations. Whether you are looking to travel without the crowds, cruise to remote islands, or hole up in a private lodge, these trip ideas allow you to travel confidently and comfortably over the holidays.

The Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are uniquely suited for holiday travel in 2021. The islands combine meaningful and sustainable travel with an unfiltered connection with nature in a safe and stunning environment. Plus, visitors will be rewarded by having the islands almost all to themselves. This means you will be surrounded by an immense amount of wildlife with very few tourists and boats in view. Indeed, locals on the ground are reporting arrival numbers near what they were 20 years ago.

The Galapagos is slated to become the first archipelago in South America to be fully vaccinated. Indeed, all local residents began receiving vaccination at the end of May. In order to gain entry to the Galapagos, travelers must present either a negative PCR test or negative antigen test issued within 72 hours of arrival or a completed vaccine certificate card.

Featured Itinerary: Galapagos Island Hopping

Galapagos Island Hopping is one of the best ways to experience the fabled archipelago off the coast of Ecuador. Luxury accommodations, private yacht transfers, and deep immersions into each island’s wildlife and natural wonders ensure an explorative yet leisurely land-based experience in the Galapagos. Bookended by Quito’s colonial quarter and authentic hacienda activities on Ecuador’s southern coast, this Galapagos Island Hopping adventure is perfect for those looking for an altogether different journey to South America.

The best part? Donna Salerno Travel can locate the perfect Galapagos properties — whether a private villa, a luxury tented camp, or sustainable eco lodge — to suit your travel preferences.

Don’t Miss: A picnic amid the resident roaming Galapagos giant tortoises on Santa Cruz Island.

Botswana

Year after year, Botswana remains a top choice for holiday travel. Its low tourism model means each safari property is small, resulting in fewer people throughout the country’s heavy hitters like the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.

For you, that means exclusivity and highly personalized service in one of the world’s most pristine wildlife destinations. Travelers to Botswana are required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test valid within 72 hours of their departure for Botswana. Within 72 hours of your departure from Botswana, you are also required to present a negative PCR test.

Botswana Family Safari

Featured Itinerary: Botswana Family Safari

From Botswana’s Okavango Delta to the arid Central Kalahari, there is something for everyone on this enchanting family-friendly safari escape. Head out into the untouched wilderness and let nature’s wonders be your inspiration to slow down and reconnect with family.

Don’t Miss: Take a helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta to see the delta and its resident game from a bird’s eye view.

Guatemala

For an easy getaway with minimal time spent in an airplane, head to Guatemala. It’s a quick flight from the States and affords travelers a wealth of history, culture, cuisine, and adventure. You’ll also find an unlimited number of private and remote activities for the taking. These include volcano treks, cave explorations, cooking classes, and epic solo sunset tours over ancient Maya ruins. Holiday travel in 2021 to Guatemala is a cinch, as travelers to Guatemala must only carry a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test less than 72 hours old. Additionally, a Health Pass form must be completed online prior to arrival.

Guatemala old city

Featured Itinerary: Guatemala Quick Getaway

Our Guatemala Quick Getaway whisks you away to the wonders of Antigua and Peten. Over the course of six days, pair active volcanoes and expansive cave systems with private helicopter tours and jungle glamping.

Travelers will especially love the charming boutique hotel and waterfront suite accommodations showcased throughout. Add in sunsets over hidden Maya ruins, and nothing is out of reach on this exclusive and expeditious escape.

Don’t Miss: A private helicopter ride to Mirador, where you will explore the Maya city of El Mirador on a private tour.

Italy

All of the European Union promises to reopen this summer, but one of the first ones out the gate was Italy. Reopened on May 15th, Italy has established several COVID-tested (or COVID-free) flight routes, so you can rest assured that every precaution has been taken to ensure safe holiday travel in 2021.

These COVID-tested flights require passengers to show proof of a negative molecular or antigenic test taken within 48 hours prior to departure. Upon arrival, travelers will then undergo an additional rapid molecular or antigenic test to prove their negativity.

Passengers must also complete a digital Passenger Locator or a paper self-declaration form prior to arrival. This might sound like a lot for one country, but we promise the rewards are worth it. Just imagine having the Colosseum all to yourself and visiting the museums of Florence without other tourists!

Venice Italy canal

Featured Itinerary: Classic Italy Private Tour

Why not take advantage of holiday travel in 2021 to see all of the highlights of Italy without the crowds? Our Classic Italy Private Tour captures all of Italy’s main attractions over 11 nights. The best of Rome, Florence, Tuscany, and Venice includes everything from treasure hunts and leather artisans to ancient wine cellars and private gondola rides.

Plus, traveling over the holiday months practically guarantees you will have all of Italy’s sites to yourself. Imagine seeing the Vatican or standing in front of the statue of David without competing for the view! Furthermore, enjoy a healthy dose of holiday cheer in Florence and Venice, where the magical markets are on full display.

Don’t Miss: A private guided visit to one of the most famous leather producers in Florence. While here, discover its fascinating and benevolent history and learn how the artisans select and work this excellent product.

Rwanda

Travel to Rwanda this holiday season to experience one of the safest and cleanest countries in the world. Rwanda has been open for tourism since August 2020. As a forerunner to bringing tourism back, they’ve had a lot of time to perfect the process.

The result is a seamless implementation of health and safety protocols with minimal disturbance to your trip. Travelers to Rwanda must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed no more than 72 hours before initial departure.

A second PCR test will be administered on arrival in your hotel room. We suggest gorilla or chimpanzee trekking during the first few days of your trip, as a primate trekking requires an additional negative test at least 72 hours before the trek.

Featured Itinerary: Into the Rwanda Wild

Journey with us Into the Rwanda Wild, where mountainous forest habitats are home to some of Africa’s most elusive primates. What was once an add-on destination to East Africa safaris, Rwanda has emerged as an exciting safari destination in its own right. However, its lodges and parks receive a fraction of the tourists its neighboring countries see each year.

On this 11-day journey, you’ll stay at intimate properties owned by some of the biggest stars in sustainable luxury tourism. Experience privately guided drives through some of Rwanda’s most beautiful countryside. And hop on a helicopter for a private transfer over Rwanda’s largest lake, Lake Kivu.

Don’t Miss: Obviously one cannot travel to Rwanda without gorilla trekking. However, visiting the Genocide Museum is a must for starting any trip in Rwanda. It sets the groundwork for understanding the country and the amazing people you will encounter along the way.
