Itinerary Description:
Crafted with activities best suited for the summer months, the Southern Iceland Summer Adventure is Donna Salerno Travel’s introduction to Iceland for intrepid explorers. Guided activities are designed for a range of fitness levels and abilities, and all options are flexible. Your travel designer will help you customize this journey based on your own unique preferences to make the most of your time in Iceland.
Your journey begins in Reykjavik with a privately guided tour of the city. After you feast your eyes on the city’s architecture and sweeping coastal views, it’s time for a different feast. Join a local chef for a private Icelandic cooking class and craft your own authentic dinner. On your third day in Iceland, you’ll head to Thrihnukagigur volcano and, if you’re brave enough, you can descend 400 feet “Into The Volcano” for an inside view of a crater few explorers get to see.
Next, head off to the magical landscape of the Golden Circle. UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park is your all-day playground full of waterfalls, geysers, and geological wonders. Your guide will also take you under the water for a unique snorkeling experience at Silfra. Don your wetsuit for an up-close view of the continental plates that have shaped Iceland.
Back above water, your Southern Iceland Summer Adventure moves on to Landmannalaugar. Climb atop a super-Jeep specially designed to navigate the precarious terrain with ease. Set off across lava fields, black ash, and scoria deserts. You’ll have the opportunity to take a dip in one of the natural pools here, a soothing experience we highly recommend. Whale and puffin watching, ATV rides, horseback riding, and caving adventures are all possible here, too. Choose your own adventure and your travel designer will help you fill your day with excitement.
Return back to Reykjavik today by way of Reykjanesskagi, a peninsula at the southwestern end of Iceland. A unique buggy excursion takes you over its lava fields to see colorful soil deposits, towering cliffs, Kleifarvatn Lake, black sandy beaches, and rugged coastline. Your journey ends at Blue Lagoon with a mineral-rich soak in its waters. It’s the perfect way to wind down after your adventure.
